ABOUT THE PRACTICE
Q Consulting is a specialist engineering consultancy focused on climate and water management. The practice provides technical advisory, hydraulic design, and analytical services to infrastructure operators, project developers, development agencies, and government bodies.

Work covers the full project lifecycle, from pre-feasibility and environmental screening through to detailed design and construction support, across urban, rural, and extractive industry settings. Q Consulting has worked across Europe, the Caribbean, Sub-Saharan Africa, and the Middle East, in arid, tropical, and temperate environments.

The practice works at the intersection of hydraulic engineering and data science. Reproducible analytical pipelines, climate datasets, and AI-assisted workflows are used as standard, allowing small, focused teams to carry out the kind of analysis that has traditionally required much larger ones.

SERVICE LINES

Four areas of expertise

Climate Advisory

Statistical analysis of historical climate records, evaluation of Global Climate Models from CMIP6 and NASA NEX-GDDP datasets, and derivation of bias-corrected, site-specific design parameters. Outputs include updated IDF and DDF curves, climate change uplift factors, and hydraulic design criteria documents.

Water Engineering

Rainfall-runoff modelling, flood risk assessment, hydraulic design of conveyance and storage structures, water supply system design and review, and hydropower hydrological studies. Field data collection, flow gauging, and geomorphological assessment undertaken where site conditions require.

Blue-Green Infrastructure

Storage volume calculations, outlet control design, infiltration assessment, and hydraulic modelling of combined grey and green systems. Frameworks applied include SuDS, WSUD, GSI, and NbS depending on regulatory context and client requirements.

Mine Water Management

Site hydrology, water balance modelling, design of diversion channels, sedimentation ponds, culverts, spillways, and erosion control structures. Water management components of Feasibility Studies and ESIAs. Dam breach analysis for water and tailings dams per ICOLD guidelines.

SELECTED WORK

Projects across four continents

02
East AfricaInt. Development

Rural Water Supply System Review

Hydraulic design review and optimisation of a pressure water supply system serving a hospital, two health centres, seven villages, and four educational institutions. Work covered network performance assessment, pressure analysis, and design recommendations to improve system reliability and coverage.

03
West AfricaMining

Surface Water Management on Major Iron Ore Mine

Hydrological and hydraulic assessment supporting infrastructure design for a large-scale mining and railway corridor project. Scope included field flow gauging, geomorphological surveys, rainfall-runoff modelling, climate-informed hydraulic design criteria, and water-related ESIA contributions.

04
West AfricaMining

Surface Water Management on Gold Mine

Surface water management study for an open pit mine in a flash flood-prone catchment. Scope covered stormwater infrastructure design, flood risk assessment for a nearby settlement, and a phased water management strategy. Design outputs included diversion channels, culverts, stilling basins, and sedimentation ponds.

05
Central EuropeMining

Underground Mine Dewatering on Lithium Mine

Underground water balance modelling to project groundwater inflows, service water requirements, and dewatering pumping rates across the life of mine. Outputs informed Feasibility Study design criteria and supported preliminary pressure network design.

06
Arabian PeninsulaUrban Infra.

Green Infrastructure Integration for Urban Park Redevelopment

Drainage strategy for a flagship urban park redevelopment, integrating green infrastructure to reduce pipe network requirements. Design leveraged landscape features for stormwater attenuation and infiltration in an arid urban environment.

07
Arabian PeninsulaUrban Infra.

Stormwater Drainage Strategy for Large-Scale Urban Development

Stormwater drainage strategy and detailed network design for a large mixed-use urban development. Scope included hydraulic modelling, option analysis, a gravity diversion system to a central storage reservoir and detailed design.
